Business Consultancy SEO Case Study: 81% More Clicks From Buyers, Not Browsers

A consultancy's pipeline was starving while its expertise sat invisible on page two.

This case study shows why B2B consultancy SEO is not a volume game. In 28 days we grew a business consultancy's organic clicks from 42 to 76 and nearly doubled its impressions, while the site held a 10% average click-through rate. At that CTR, almost every impression is a potential client seeing exactly what they searched for. Here is the full story: the problem, the diagnosis, the work, and the unedited Google Search Console graph.

The starting problem

Deep Expertise, Empty Calendar

The consultancy came to us with a problem we see constantly in professional services. The partners were genuinely good at what they do. Referrals kept the firm alive, and clients who worked with them stayed. But referrals are not a growth strategy, they are a ceiling. When the referral flow slowed, the calendar emptied, and there was no system pulling new prospects in.

Meanwhile, the people the firm most wanted to reach were searching Google every day for answers to the exact problems the consultancy solves. They were finding competitors. Not better consultants, better-optimized ones. The website existed, it looked professional, and it was functionally invisible: a modest 42 clicks from search in a month, for a firm whose average engagement makes a single new client worth the entire marketing budget.

That last detail matters, because it defines what success looks like. A consultancy does not need 50,000 visitors. It needs the few hundred people actively searching for the expertise it sells, and it needs to be the answer they click.

What we found

The Diagnosis Behind the Invisibility

Our audit surfaced a familiar pattern for consultancy websites. None of these findings are exotic, and that is the point: the gap between this firm and the competitors outranking it was process, not talent. These became the campaign's focus areas.

Expertise no one could find

The consultancy's methodology pages read beautifully for humans who already knew the firm, but they were not written around the problems prospects actually type into Google. Real buyer questions had no dedicated page answering them.

Thin service pages

Core service pages described offerings in a few abstract paragraphs. Google had little text to rank, and a skeptical B2B buyer had little substance to evaluate. Neither audience was being served.

A flat internal structure

Insights, service pages, and the homepage barely linked to each other. Authority the site had earned was pooling on one or two URLs instead of flowing to the pages that win clients.

No query intelligence

Nobody had mapped which searches the firm could realistically win. Without keyword and competitor data, the site was competing accidentally, on whatever queries Google guessed it belonged to.

What we did

Four Phases, One Direction

We ran this campaign as a precision exercise. Every phase pointed the site at a smaller number of better searches: the queries a buyer types when they are close to hiring. The work drew on our keyword research and competitor analysis, SEO content writing, and Complete Monthly SEO disciplines.

01

Keyword and competitor mapping

We started with research, not writing. Our keyword research and competitor analysis identified the specific questions the firm's ideal clients search before hiring a consultant, then scored each one for intent and winnability against the consultancies already ranking.

02

Rebuilding the service pages

We rewrote every core service page around one clearly defined problem and the firm's approach to solving it. Each page gained depth, proof of expertise, and language matched to the queries from phase one, the on-page discipline behind our content writing service.

03

Publishing answer-first insights

We built out insight content that answers high-intent buyer questions directly in the first sentences, then earns the deeper read. This is what put the site in front of searches it had never appeared for before.

04

Ongoing monthly iteration

Under our monthly SEO program we tightened internal links so authority flowed to money pages, monitored Search Console for new query opportunities, and kept expanding coverage query by query.

The results

Reading the Numbers Honestly

Clicks grew 81% in the 28-day comparison, from 42 to 76. Impressions grew 99%, from 381 to 757. On the daily view of the graph you can watch both lines separate from the prior period and stay separated: this was not one lucky spike, it was a new baseline forming day after day.

Two metrics moved in a direction that a less honest agency would hide, so let us read them properly. Average CTR eased from 11% to 10%, and average position moved from 7.2 to 11.6. Both are dilution effects of the same win: the site started appearing for many new queries it had never ranked for before. New queries enter the results at lower positions and lower click-through rates at first, which drags both averages down even while the established rankings keep performing. If those averages had stayed frozen, it would mean the site's footprint had stopped growing.

And a 10% average CTR is still exceptional. Typical organic CTRs across a whole site sit in the low single digits. Holding 10% while impressions doubled means the new visibility landed on precise, high-intent searches, not random noise. For a B2B consultancy, that is the entire game: doubling impressions at this CTR nearly doubles the number of potential clients who see and click the firm each month.

At a 10% click-through rate, nearly every impression is a potential client, so doubling impressions nearly doubles opportunities.

The 28-day scoreboard

  • Organic clicks: 42 to 76, an 81% increase over the previous 28 days
  • Impressions: 381 to 757, up 99% as new queries joined the footprint
  • Average CTR: 10%, several times the typical sitewide organic rate
  • Average position: 7.2 to 11.6, diluted by brand-new queries entering low
  • Daily view shows a sustained new baseline, not a single spike

What this means for you

The Lesson for Every Expertise Business

Small traffic numbers can hide a large business result. If you sell expertise, whether consulting, law, accounting, engineering, or any high-ticket B2B service, do not judge SEO by raw visitor counts. Judge it by how many of the right people find you. Seventy-six high-intent clicks can be worth more than seventy-six thousand casual ones, because each of those visitors searched for the problem you solve and chose you from the results.

The playbook is repeatable. Map the questions your buyers ask before they hire. Build pages that answer them with genuine depth. Connect those pages so authority flows where revenue happens. Then measure everything in Search Console and expand into the next query. That is the process behind this graph, and it is the same process our free audit applies to your website on day one.
