Dental Practice SEO Case Study: 977% Growth for an Australian Practice
On page two of Google, a dental practice does not exist to the patients searching for it.
This Australian dental practice started with an average position of 22.9, deep in page-two territory where almost nobody scrolls. Six months later its average position was 7.7, a page-one average, and organic clicks had multiplied nearly eleven-fold, from 311 to 3,350. Every number on this page comes straight from Google Search Console, and the story behind them is a lesson in how SEO compounds: months of groundwork, then a takeoff.

The proof
The Graph, Straight From Google Search Console
This is the unedited six-month comparison from Google Search Console, shown in daily view. Notice the shape: modest movement through the first three and a half months while the groundwork accumulated, then a clear takeoff around day 110 as rankings crossed onto page one. By the end of the window the practice was earning 40 to 70 clicks a day, with daily impressions peaking near 9,000.

The starting problem
A Good Practice Nobody Could Find
An average position of 22.9 means the practice lived on page two of Google for the searches that decide its future. Think about how patients actually choose a dentist. Someone with a cracked tooth searches for an emergency dentist and books one of the first practices they see. A family that just moved to the area searches for a dentist nearby and never leaves page one. Someone comparing prices for a crown or teeth whitening reads three or four results and calls one of them.
In every one of those moments, this practice was absent. Six months of history told the story plainly: 311 clicks from 78,700 impressions, a 0.4% click-through rate, and a ranking average that never escaped page two. The demand existed, the searches were happening every day, and the patients were booking with whoever Google showed first. The website was not broken in a way anyone could see. It was simply invisible where visibility pays.
For a dentist, page two of Google is not a lower rank. It is invisibility, and page one is where the phone starts ringing.
What we found
Why the Practice Was Stuck on Page Two
Our audit framed the campaign around four focus areas. None of them was dramatic on its own, and that is the point: sites rarely sit at position 22.9 because of one catastrophic error. They sit there because several ordinary problems stack up until Google has no compelling reason to rank them above competitors who got the same things right.
Buried by the treatment queries that mattered
The site's most valuable pages sat far down page two for the treatment and near-me searches patients actually type, while stronger competitor pages held page one.
Technical friction holding pages back
Crawl and indexation inefficiencies, slow templates, and thin internal linking meant Google was not consistently seeing, understanding, or prioritizing the pages that needed to rank.
Weak local relevance signals
Location and service relevance was spread thin across the site instead of being concentrated where it counts, so Google had no strong reason to treat the practice as the local answer.
An authority gap against established rivals
Competing practices had years of accumulated links and mentions. Without a plan to close that gap, better on-page work alone would have stalled below the positions that earn clicks.

What we did
Six Months, Four Phases, One Compounding System
We sequenced the work deliberately. Technical SEO came first, because content and links cannot lift pages Google struggles to crawl. On-page optimization and local SEO followed, rebuilt around keyword and competitor research. Then content deepened the site's relevance, and authority building closed the gap with entrenched competitors, all coordinated under our Complete Monthly SEO service.
Technical foundation
We started where every campaign should: making the site easy for Google to crawl, index, and understand.
- Full technical audit and crawl cleanup
- Indexation and site structure fixes
- Page speed and template improvements
- Dentist-specific structured data
Relevance and local targeting
With the foundation set, we rebuilt how the site answers patient searches, treatment by treatment.
- Keyword and competitor gap mapping
- Treatment pages rewritten for search intent
- Titles, headings, and internal links restructured
- Local relevance concentrated on priority pages
Content patients actually search for
We added the supporting content that turns a brochure site into the most useful dental resource in its area.
- Patient-question content mapped to real queries
- Supporting pages linked into treatment pages
- Existing pages deepened, not duplicated
- E-E-A-T signals strengthened across the site
Authority and compounding
As relevance improved, targeted authority building gave Google the final reason to move the site onto page one.
- Relevant, white-hat link acquisition
- Monthly measurement and priority resets
- Doubling down on queries gaining traction
- Search Console verification of every gain
The results
From 311 Clicks to 3,350: What Actually Happened
Organic clicks grew from 311 to 3,350 in six months, a 977% increase over the previous six-month period. Impressions grew from 78,700 to 546,000, up 594%, which means Google showed the practice in search results roughly seven times more often. And the number that drove both: average position improved from 22.9 to 7.7, a gain of 15 positions that carried the site from deep page two to a page-one average.
The shape of the graph is as instructive as the totals. For the first three and a half months, progress was real but quiet: technical fixes indexed, rewritten pages settled, rankings crept upward through the teens. Then, around day 110, the compounding crossed a threshold. Clicks took off and climbed to 40 to 70 a day, and daily impressions peaked near 9,000. Nothing magical happened that week. The takeoff was months of groundwork finally clearing page one, where clicks live.
One number deserves honest framing: CTR moved from 0.4% to just 0.6%. That looks modest next to 977% click growth, and the reason is arithmetic, not weakness. When impressions grow 594%, the site is suddenly appearing for a huge volume of new queries, including many where it ranks mid-page and earns few clicks yet. Averaged across all of that new visibility, CTR gets diluted even while absolute clicks multiply eleven-fold. As those newer rankings climb, CTR follows.

What this means for you
The Lesson Hiding in This Graph
The lesson of this case study is that position, not effort, is what search traffic pays for. This practice did not need eleven times more marketing to earn eleven times more clicks. It needed to cross one line: from page two, where searchers never look, to page one, where they choose. If your business ranks between positions 11 and 30, you are sitting on demand that already exists and already searches for you every day. The work is closing the gap.
The second lesson is patience with a deadline. This campaign looked unremarkable for three and a half months, then delivered its entire headline in the final stretch. Businesses that quit SEO in month three routinely abandon campaigns that were weeks from takeoff. We report from Search Console bi-weekly precisely so you can see the groundwork accumulating before it turns into clicks.
And the market angle matters: we ran this campaign for an Australian practice from our base in Austin, TX. Fivet Solutions LLC works with clients internationally, and search rewards the same fundamentals in every market. If your competitors are local, an agency that competes globally is an advantage, not a compromise.
Signs your website is this practice, before the campaign
- Your average position sits between 11 and 30 in Search Console
- Impressions are respectable but clicks stay flat
- Competitors dominate the searches your patients or customers type
- Past SEO efforts were abandoned after two or three quiet months
- You cannot name the technical issues holding your site back
