Local Dentist SEO Case Study: 578% More Clicks in One Month
A dental practice that nobody can find online has empty chair time it never had to accept.
This is the first month of a local SEO campaign for a local Australian dental practice, recorded day by day in Google Search Console. Clicks grew from 9 to 61, impressions from 2.17K to 9.08K, click-through rate nearly doubled from 0.4% to 0.7%, and the average position climbed seven places, from 33.6 to 26.3. The absolute numbers are small, and we will not pretend otherwise. What they show is a practice going from effectively invisible to being found every single day, in 28 days.

The starting problem
A Good Practice Buried on Page Four
Dentistry is a proximity business with an urgency problem. When a filling falls out or a tooth starts throbbing at night, people do not browse and compare for a week. They search, scan the first few results, and call. Every practice below that fold might as well not exist for that patient, and a new patient chosen in that moment often stays with the practice for years.
That was the situation this local Australian dental practice was living with. The clinical work was solid and existing patients kept coming back, but growth depended almost entirely on word of mouth and walk-past visibility. Online, the practice averaged position 33.6 across its search queries. That is page four of Google, a place patients simply never visit.
The result was a website earning 9 clicks in a month. Nine visits, in a market where competing clinics and national booking directories were collecting every high-intent search in the area. The practice was not losing to better dentists. It was losing to better-optimized websites.
What the practice was living with
- 9 organic clicks in an entire 28-day period
- An average position of 33.6, deep on page four
- Emergency and high-value treatment searches going to competitors
- Booking directories outranking the practice for its own services
- Growth capped by word of mouth in a fixed local area
What we found
The Diagnostic: Six Reasons Patients Could Not Find the Practice
Our audit of a local dental site looks for the specific gaps that keep clinics off page one. These were the focus areas this campaign was built around.
Buried on page four
An average position of 33.6 meant the practice sat where no patient ever scrolls. Google knew the site existed. It just had no reason to show it ahead of every other dentist in the area.
Weak local relevance signals
The site did not clearly tell Google which community it serves or connect cleanly to the practice's business profile. For a dentist, those local signals decide who appears when someone searches nearby.
Treatments lumped together
Checkups, whitening, emergency toothaches, and children's dentistry are all different searches with different intent. Thin, combined pages meant the practice competed for none of them convincingly.
Pages not written for queries
Titles, headings, and copy described the practice in its own words rather than the words patients type in pain at 9pm. That mismatch alone keeps good clinics off page one.
Mobile experience friction
Dental searches happen overwhelmingly on phones. Slow loads and awkward layouts on mobile suppress both rankings and the calls that should follow a click.
Untapped query demand
Search Console showed the practice was eligible for only a fraction of the dental queries in its area. The visibility ceiling was self-imposed, which is exactly the kind of ceiling SEO removes.
What we did
Four Phases From Invisible to Climbing
We sequenced the work the way we do for every local practice: identity first, then relevance, then performance, then the monthly cycle that compounds all three.
Local foundations first
We made the practice unambiguous to Google: consistent name, address, and phone details, dental-practice structured data, and clean alignment between the website and its local business profile. This is the groundwork of our local SEO service, and for a single-location clinic it is where every ranking gain begins.
On-page rebuild around patient intent
We rewrote titles, headings, and page copy around the searches patients actually make, and gave the practice's core treatments their own focused pages instead of one crowded menu. That is standard on-page SEO discipline, and it is what unlocked the flood of new query impressions the graph shows.
Technical cleanup and mobile speed
We resolved the crawling, indexing, and page-speed issues holding the site back, with mobile treated as the primary experience. A dental site that loads fast on a phone at 9pm is a site that gets the emergency call.
The ongoing monthly cycle
From there the campaign settled into the rhythm of our Complete Monthly SEO service: watch what Google rewards, push the queries closest to page one, widen treatment coverage, and keep strengthening local authority. The 28-day window on this page is the first lap of that cycle, not the finish line.
Your practice gets the same sequence, starting with a free audit that shows exactly where you stand.

What Google Search Console Recorded

The comparison view tells the story in two lines. The previous 28 days sit flat along the bottom: 9 clicks and 2,170 impressions, a website Google barely bothered to show. The current 28 days climb away from it almost immediately, finishing at 61 clicks and 9,080 impressions. That is 578% more clicks and 318% more impressions in the practice's first month of focused work.
The impression growth is the part we watch closest at this stage. Quadrupled impressions mean Google started showing the practice for thousands of searches it previously sat out entirely: treatment queries, near-me searches, the questions patients ask before booking. Visibility always arrives before clicks, and clicks arrive before patients. This graph is the first domino visibly falling.
Two numbers deserve an honest reading. The 0.7% CTR is low in absolute terms, and the average position of 26.3 is still page three. Both are exactly what a working first month looks like. When a site floods into thousands of new queries, it enters most of them near the back, which drags the averages down even as real rankings rise. Position still climbed seven full places against that headwind, and CTR nearly doubled anyway.
We publish this window precisely because it is early. Our other dental campaigns on the case studies page show what this same curve looks like after more months of compounding, including practices that reached page-one averages. This page shows the month where that climb begins.
A practice that went from 9 clicks to 61 did not just gain 52 visits. It went from being found roughly twice a week to being found twice a day, by local people actively looking for a dentist.
What this means for your business
Why Small Click Numbers Are Big Money in Dentistry
Dental economics make early SEO wins more valuable than they look. A practice does not need thousands of clicks, because a single dental chair can only see so many patients a day. What it needs is for enough of the right people, in pain or overdue for care, to find it first. Even a handful of extra booked patients a month is real revenue, and each new patient tends to return for years and bring family with them. The lifetime value hiding inside 52 additional monthly clicks is far larger than the click count suggests.
The trajectory is the other lesson. This is what the first month of a healthy local campaign looks like: impressions multiplying, position climbing, clicks following. Most local campaigns show their first measurable movement inside one to three months; this one moved in 28 days because the earliest gains come from fixing what is broken and unlocking queries a site should already appear for. The months after are where the compounding happens, as queries move from page three to page one and the same visibility starts converting at several times the rate. The practices that benefit most are the ones that start before their competitors do, not after.
If your practice, clinic, or local business is sitting on page three of Google, you have the same ceiling this dentist had, and the same room to climb. The free audit shows you exactly where you stand and what the first 28 days of fixing it should target.
