Moving Company SEO Case Study: 75% More Clicks in Canada's Toughest Niche
Every mover's nightmare: showing up in 75,000 searches a month and watching the aggregators take the calls.
This moving company was not invisible. Google showed it tens of thousands of times every month. The problem was converting that visibility into clicks while competing against national brands and comparison sites on nearly every query. In 28 days, our campaign grew daily organic clicks from 40 to 70, a 75% increase, while pushing impressions from 75.3K to 87.4K. Here is exactly how, with the Google Search Console graph to prove it.

The proof
The Google Search Console Graph
This is the unedited 28-day comparison from Google Search Console, Google's own reporting tool. The solid lines are the campaign period; the dotted lines are the 28 days before it. Clicks climbed from 40 to 70 while impressions expanded from 75.3K to 87.4K.

The starting problem
Visible in 75,000 Searches, Chosen in Almost None
Moving is one of the most brutal niches in Canadian search. Every valuable query, from long-distance relocations to local apartment moves, is contested by national franchise brands, comparison aggregators, and lead-resale platforms with enormous domain authority and a page for every city in the country. An independent moving company does not just compete with the mover across town. It competes with businesses whose entire model is outranking movers.
This company felt that squeeze every day. Its website already earned a six-figure monthly impression footprint, roughly 75,000 appearances in Google results every 28 days, but averaged only about 40 clicks a day from it. Moving jobs are high-ticket and seasonal; every booked move matters. When a family searches for a mover, gets shown an aggregator, and fills out that form instead, the aggregator sells that lead back to movers at a premium. The company was, in effect, paying middlemen for customers who had been searching within reach of its own website.
What we found
A Big Footprint With Nothing Converting It
Our diagnostic pointed to a pattern we see often in competitive local niches: the site had earned visibility but had never been engineered to win the click. These became the campaign's focus areas.
Service pages too thin to compete locally
The pages that should have won moving-intent searches read like brochures. They lacked the depth, structure, and location relevance that aggregators and national brands bring to every city they target.
Visibility without clickability
The site already appeared in tens of thousands of searches per month, but mostly on page three and four, where a listing is technically visible and practically invisible. The footprint existed; the positions did not convert it.
Keyword targeting spread too wide
The site chased broad national moving terms dominated by comparison sites instead of the long-tail, route-specific, and service-specific queries where an independent mover can realistically win clicks.
On-page signals working against the site
Titles, headings, and internal links did not clearly tell Google which page should rank for which moving service. Pages competed with each other for the same queries and diluted what authority the site had.
The key insight: this site did not need more visibility first. It needed to convert the visibility it already had, because a 75,000-impression footprint turns every small ranking gain into real traffic.
What we did
Four Phases, One Goal: Win the Click
We ran this campaign through our Complete Monthly SEO program, combining local SEO, on-page SEO, and keyword research and competitor analysis into one plan built for a market where brute force does not work.
Rebuilt the keyword map around winnable intent
We started with keyword research and competitor analysis focused on one question: where can an independent moving company actually outrank aggregators? That pointed us to service-specific and route-specific queries with real booking intent rather than broad national head terms.
Strengthened local relevance
We treated every service area as its own local market. Location signals, service-area targeting, and locally relevant page content were built out so Google could confidently match the company to searches in the places it actually serves.
Optimized the pages doing the ranking
We reworked titles, headings, internal links, and page copy so each moving service had one clear, authoritative page. The goal was simple: when the site earns an impression, give the searcher a compelling reason to click it over the aggregator above it.
Ran it as a monthly compounding program
Nothing here was a one-time fix. Each month we measured which queries gained impressions, which pages earned clicks, and where the next opportunity sat, then reprioritized. That cycle is what turned a static footprint into a growing one.

75% More Clicks, and an Honest Read of the Rest
Daily organic clicks grew from 40 to 70 in 28 days, a 75% increase against the previous period. Impressions rose from 75.3K to 87.4K at the same time, meaning the site was not just converting its existing footprint better; the footprint itself expanded by roughly 12,000 appearances.
Two numbers on the graph deserve an honest explanation, because most agencies would crop them out. Average CTR held at 0.1%, and average position moved from 31.8 to 32.3. Neither is a red flag; both are what growth looks like at this stage. At an average position in the low thirties, most impressions land on results pages where almost nobody clicks anything, so a low sitewide CTR reflects where the site currently ranks, not the quality of the campaign. When a site starts appearing for thousands of new queries, those new queries enter the report at low positions. They dilute the sitewide averages even while absolute clicks climb 75%. A stable average position across a larger query set means the site gained new visibility without surrendering its existing rankings.
In a niche this competitive, that combination is the leading indicator that matters: more searches entered, more clicks won, groundwork laid. As individual queries climb from page three toward page one, an 87,000-impression base converts each position gained into outsized traffic.
The 28-day scoreboard
- Organic clicks up 75%: from 40 to 70 per day
- Impressions up 16%: from 75.3K to 87.4K
- Roughly 12,000 new search appearances gained
- Average position held steady (31.8 to 32.3) across a larger query set
- Achieved against aggregators and national brands in Canada
What this means for your business
You Do Not Need to Outmuscle the Aggregators
The lesson from this campaign applies to any local service business in a crowded market: you do not beat national brands by attacking the queries they own. You beat them by finding the searches they cover generically and answering them specifically. An aggregator has a template page for your city. You have real trucks, real crews, real routes, and real service knowledge, and Google increasingly rewards pages built from that specificity.
If your website already earns impressions but few clicks, you are sitting on the same opportunity this moving company was. The visibility is the hard part, and you already have it. Converting it is a matter of targeting, local relevance, and on-page engineering, and that is measurable work with measurable results, 28 days at a time.
