New Dental Website SEO Case Study: From Zero to 662 Clicks
A brand-new practice website has no history, no authority, and no reason for Google to trust it.
This case study starts at literal zero. A new Australian dental website launched with no search history of any kind: zero clicks, zero impressions, zero rankings. Six months later Google Search Console recorded 662 clicks and 79.8K impressions. No recovery, no inherited baseline, just a cold start handled properly in one of Google's strictest YMYL niches.

The proof
Six Months of Growth From a Flat Line
The screenshot below is the unedited Google Search Console daily report for this property's first six months. There is no previous period to compare against because it does not exist: before this window, the domain had zero clicks and zero impressions. Both lines start at the floor and climb steadily to 16 to 24 clicks and 1.6K to 2.4K impressions a day.

The starting problem
The Cold-Start Problem Every New Practice Faces
A new dental practice opens its doors with everything except patients who can find it. The chairs are installed, the team is hired, the overheads start on day one, and the website that is supposed to fill the appointment book is a domain Google has never heard of. No rankings. No links. Not a single recorded search impression.
This is the cold-start problem, and it is brutal in dentistry specifically. Every patient search worth winning already has a page one full of established practices with years of accumulated trust. And Google treats dental content as YMYL, the Your Money or Your Life category where its systems demand proven expertise and trustworthiness before granting visibility. A brand-new site sits the strictest exam Google runs, holding a blank report card.
The common outcome is the one nobody publishes: a new practice site that stays invisible for a year while ads compensate. The owners of this new Australian dental website wanted the other outcome, so the SEO work started before launch, not after.
What we found
The Diagnostic: What a Zero-History Domain Is Up Against
Our launch assessment for a new site differs from an audit of an existing one. Nothing is broken yet; instead, we map everything the domain lacks and decide how each gap gets closed deliberately. Four realities defined this campaign's focus areas.
Zero domain history
Google had never crawled this domain, never ranked it, and never watched a user interact with it. There was no baseline to recover and no old equity to lean on. Every signal had to be created, which made the launch architecture the highest-leverage decision of the campaign.
The YMYL trust bar
Dental content is health content, so Google applies its strictest quality standards before surfacing it. A new practice site starts that evaluation with an empty file. Clear treatment information, visible credentials, and honest, people-first copy were the entry fee, not nice-to-haves.
A blank local footprint
Patients choose a dentist they can actually visit, and local results are where those decisions happen. The new practice had no established connection between its website and its physical presence, so consistent, unambiguous local signals became an immediate focus area.
Entrenched competitors
Every dental query worth ranking for already had a page one filled with practices holding years of history, reviews, and links. A new site cannot outmuscle that authority, so it has to out-structure it: cleaner architecture, precise treatment pages, better answers.
A new website cannot borrow trust, so every signal it sends from day one either builds its case with Google or wastes the crawl. On a cold start, there are no neutral decisions.
What we did
The Campaign, Phase by Phase
We sequenced this campaign the way every cold start should run: get the foundation right before asking Google for anything, then compound. Each phase below fed directly into the next.
A website built for search from day one
We treated the build itself as the first SEO deliverable. The site launched fast, mobile-first, and technically clean: crawlable architecture, logical URLs, structured data, and a page for every treatment patients actually search for. Retrofitting SEO onto a finished site always costs more than building it in, which is exactly why our website development service exists.
Explore Website DevelopmentLocal signals from the first week
A dental practice wins or loses in local search, so we established the local foundation immediately: consistent practice details across the web, service pages aligned with how nearby patients phrase their searches, and clear signals tying the website to a real, physical practice. Our local SEO service applies this groundwork to every business whose customers walk through a door.
Explore Local SEOTreatment content that earns YMYL trust
Every treatment page was written to answer real patient questions in plain language, with the practice's expertise visible on the page. No thin placeholder copy, no generated filler. On a brand-new health site, content is the main evidence Google has to judge, so every indexed page had to argue for the site rather than against it.
Explore Content WritingMonthly compounding, measured in Search Console
From launch onward the site ran on our Complete Monthly SEO cycle: watch what Google Search Console records, strengthen queries gaining traction, fix what stalls, and expand into the next set of treatments. Cold starts are won by consistency; every week of the graph exists because the previous week's work was measured and built upon.

The results
Reading a Cold Start Honestly
The headline numbers: 662 clicks and 79.8K impressions in the first six months of a domain that started with zero of both. By the end of the window the site was earning 16 to 24 clicks a day and appearing in 1,600 to 2,400 searches a day. For a single-location dental practice, that is a real stream of potential patients arriving without a cent of ad spend behind it.
The shape of the graph matters as much as the totals. Growth from a standing start should look exactly like this: quiet early weeks while Google discovers, crawls, and tests the site, then a steady climb as each proven signal unlocks more visibility. This property earned its first trickle of impressions within weeks of launch, and the near-zero stretch before that trickle is a normal part of every new domain's life, not a sign anything is wrong. There is no spike to regress from; every level the site reached, it held.
The blended averages need honest framing. CTR of 0.8% and average position 16.4 are not impressive out of context, but both are exactly what healthy cold-start data looks like. Every query was new, and new queries enter Search Console at low positions where almost nobody clicks. A blended 16.4 across an entirely new query footprint means the strongest treatment pages were already crossing onto page one while hundreds of fresh queries entered lower and diluted the average. That is why we read a first half-year through absolute clicks: averages get diluted by expansion, but 662 real visits from zero cannot be. As rankings climb from 16 toward the top five, the 79.8K impressions already earned become the raw material for the second six months.
What this means for you
Your New Website Does Not Have to Spend a Year Invisible
The invisible year is optional. Most new websites spend their first year unseen not because Google is slow, but because the site gives Google nothing to trust: a rushed build, thin pages, no local signals, and SEO bolted on months later. This campaign shows the alternative. When the foundation is built for search from day one, a zero-history domain in a strict YMYL niche can be earning thousands of impressions a day within six months.
The transferable lesson is timing. Every phase of this campaign was cheaper and more effective because it happened at launch instead of as a retrofit: architecture decided before the first crawl, local signals established in the first week, content written to YMYL standards before Google ever evaluated the domain. If a dental site can do this under Google's strictest scrutiny, a new trades business, clinic, store, or firm can do the same in its own market. If you are planning a new website, or launched one that is still invisible, the free audit below is the right first step.
